To more effectively implement University Social Responsibility (USR), our university has incorporated a new sub-strategy of "Practicing Social Responsibility" into themain framework of our institutional development plan, which centers on the comprehensive goal of "Holistic Education."
From August 2017 to 2020, we received a total of NT$40 million in subsidies from the Ministry of Education, in addition to funding from the university. During the execution of the first phase of the project, we integrated interdisciplinary teams of faculty and students to offer diverse courses, thereby expanding the impact of the USR program on teaching innovation. We promoted general education and departmental professional courses through Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Place-Based Learning (PBL), establishing an innovative USR curriculum system.
In the second phase of the social practice project from 2020 to 2022, our university continued to enhance investment in the USR program. The original "Tainan Agricultural Health and Wellness" project was upgraded from a nascent to an in-depth project, while the original "Disappearing Needlework - Embroidery Craft Heritage and Memory Extension" seed project was also upgraded to an emerging project. Additionally, a new emerging project, "Aspiration for Liuxiang - Co-creation and Value Reconstruction for the Young and the Elderly," was proposed.
In the third phase of the social practice project from 2023 to 2024, our university continued to strengthen investment in the USR program. The original "Disappearing Needlework - Embroidery Craft Heritage and Memory Extension" emerging project was upgraded to an in-depth project, and the original "Aspiration for Liuxiang - Co-creation and Value Reconstruction for the Young and the Elderly" emerging project was also upgraded to an in-depth project.
Furthermore, our university’s deep cultivation plan for higher education also includes three new USR-HUB seed incubation projects: "Encountering Ziguang - Agricultural Value Practice in Ziguang," which integrates with Ziguang agriculture to enhance smart agricultural talent and improve agricultural management quality, providing sustainable and innovative value; "Water Play in Kuncheng - Tainan Coastal Tourism Innovation Plan," which aims to advance sustainable tourism with innovative development opportunities; and "Healing Marketing and Fun Living," which focuses on gender equality by linking art therapy with board games to establish a friendly campus and community care services.
Our university publishes an annual USR report to integrate and review the planning and execution effectiveness of social responsibility practices. This strengthens the connection between USR case projects and the deep cultivation plan for teaching innovation. Previously, our social practice efforts were often individual efforts by teachers in their areas of expertise. Through the USR program, we aim to systematically promote "line" connections and continue to integrate with the deep cultivation plan for higher education, rooting and implementing local revitalization with the school’s characteristics in a "surface" approach.
